Emma Cowell Paperworks

My work is about beauty in line and hand technique, it combines decoration and versatility in a collection derived from studies of growth and structure within natural forms. As an artist and also a member of modern British society I feel that in order to move forward in design and in all other areas of culture, we must embrace and reflect on traditions and techniques of the past. This is why creating my work without the help of machines for both the drawing and paper cutting is so important and such an integral part of each piece I make. I enjoy drawing and see each line as a component to be built up into a complete piece. Linear detail excites me as it has the ability to work in both two,
and three-dimensional directions, using layers and line thickness to create depth.

The material, paper, is delicate, retaining the intricacy of hand drawing and cutting techniques, whilst its strength allows the use of scale, light and the introduction of colour. My current range of work varies from large hanging or installation pieces to small, framed pieces for interiors. Works ranges from only black and white, to black and white with highlights of colour and all the work is handmade and therefore unique, commissions are also possible.

I also have a selction of cards and prints, these are prints of my original illustrations on good quality paper, or extended versions of my illustrations which are digitally manipulated. Please Don't hesitate to ask my any questions and to see futher images or information go to my blog www.emmacowell.blogspot.com.
